Honoring Our Rich History
Since its inception in Boonville in 2007, the Walk for Autism has brought our community together to celebrate acceptance, support those with autism and their families and make a lasting difference close to home.
Early Beginnings
The Walk for Autism began in Boonville in 2007, inspired by the vision of Lucrezia Johnson, a longtime friend of Kelberman, and a dedicated group of local residents. Together, they brought families, friends and supporters together with a shared purpose: to raise autism awareness, promote acceptance and support local autism services.
What began as a small community gathering grew into a beloved tradition. As enthusiasm spread, neighboring communities organized walks of their own, expanding the event’s reach and bringing more people together in support of individuals with autism and their families.
An Enduring Tradition
In 2024, the event expanded to include an Inclusion Fair, creating opportunities for attendees to connect with local organizations, explore community resources and celebrate people of all abilities. This addition strengthened the Walk’s commitment to building a more welcoming and inclusive community.
Today, the Walk for Autism & Inclusion Fair at SUNY Polytechnic Institute brings together more than 1,000 participants and raises vital funds for autism services and supports at Kelberman. Built on the dedication of its founders and the continued commitment of families, volunteers and supporters, the event celebrates acceptance, inclusion and the power of community.
A Blast From The Past!
Walk for Autism Timeline
Boonville Walk began by Lucrezia Johnson and a dedicated group of local residents.
Walks expanded and were held regionally in local communities.
Walk was entirely virtual due to the Covid pandemic.
Walk was back to in person, at The Fitness Mill in Utica.
Inclusion Fair was added to the Walk for Autism, now held at SUNY Poly.
The Walk for Autism & Inclusion Fair continues to grow to over 1,000 participants!
