Article 16 Clinic
The Article 16 Clinic at Kelberman is an outpatient facility certified by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). The clinic provides specialized clinical services, including: Autism and Intellectual Disabilities (IDD) Diagnostic Evaluations, Speech, Occupational, and Physical therapies, as well as Social Work Counseling. The services provided through the Article 16 clinic aim to support individuals’ independence and daily living skills.
Overview
Services offered through the Article 16 clinic are designed to improve or limit disabling conditions through assessments, therapies, and interdisciplinary care. The goal of services is to help individuals remain in the least restrictive environment and help ensure access to necessary care.
- Services occur on-site at our clinic location.
- Diagnostic evaluation services typically include one to three appointments ranging between one to four hours per appointment.
- Therapy appointments are scheduled based on an individual’s unique needs and may occur one to two times per week for 30-minute sessions.
- Social Work counseling appointments are scheduled based on an individual’s unique needs and may occur weekly, every other week, or monthly for 30-minute to 1-hour sessions.
- Individuals must be eligible for OPWDD services and have a written referral and prescription from a qualified healthcare professional to receive services at an Article 16 clinic.
- Kelberman partners with several insurance companies.
What Can Article 16 Services Do For Me?
- A Diagnostic Evaluation can help individuals and families obtain a better understanding of an individual's strengths, challenges, and support needs, helping families and providers make informed decisions about care and services.
- Social Work Counseling helps individuals and families build the skills, supports, and confidence needed to thrive in everyday life.
- Speech Therapy is individualized to each person's strengths, needs, and goals, helping them communicate more effectively and participate more fully in daily life.
- Occupational Therapy focuses on building skills that support daily living, learning, play, social participation, and overall well-being.
- Physical Therapy helps individuals improve strength, balance, coordination, mobility, and overall physical functioning to support participation in daily activities, recreation, school, work, and community life.
New Referral Information
At Kelberman, every individual and family matters deeply to us. Due to high demand and our commitment to providing thorough, individualized assessments, we are temporarily pausing new referrals for diagnostic services within Kelberman’s Article 16 Clinic. Referrals for all other Article 16 services continue to be accepted and reviewed.
We know this may be disappointing news for those seeking answers, and we want you to know this decision was made with great care. Our team is working hard to expand capacity so we can welcome new families again soon. In the meantime, we encourage you to explore the availability of a diagnostic evaluation at another Article 16 clinic, which can be found on the OPWDD website here.
