Employment Services
Our pre-employment and employment support services help people learn work readiness skills or continue with on-the-job training at their internship or place of employment.
Overview
Everyone needs to start somewhere! Pre-employment services are provided to students and adults who have little to no work experience. For people who are already employed or have past work experience, we offer short-or long-term job coaching support.
- Additional training on tasks and supports to meet job requirements.
- Assistance to seek out employment opportunities, work on resume writing, completion of job applications, and Interviewing skills.
- We work with each person and job employers to address any questions or concerns.
What Can Employment Services Do For Me?
- Focus on self advocacy and professional communication.
- Help with following directions and developing problem solving skills.
- Assistance on or off the job site.
Employment Programs at Kelberman
Employment Programs at Kelberman Include:
- Community-Based Prevocational Services (PREVOC) & Discover-U Program
- Supported Employment (SEMP)
- ACESS-VR
Community based pre-vocational services are a person-centered program which is designed to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build the skills needed for competitive and integrated employment. Community based prevocational services offer hands on experiences within the community through volunteering and also instruction on skills necessary to live a more enriched life.
Benefits Include:
- A great program to assist in the transition from high school to the workforce. Which can assist in the transfer to other employment programs such as SEMP and ACCES-VR.
- Small group setting to ensure that goals and outcomes are achieved.
- Volunteering at community sites and giving back to the community while learning valuable skills.
Discover-U Program
Discover U is an internship program created by Kelberman and based at Utica University to assist the individual with learning valuable skills while at an internship site on the Utica University campus. This is an unpaid internship program that runs alongside the university calendar. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in three internship sites for ten weeks at each site. An employment specialist will be on campus throughout the day and providing assistance to the intern as needed.
This is a great opportunity to gain skills in the areas of time management, professional communication, learning positive work habits as well as many other skills. The employment specialist will provide in class instruction to get the day started with a curriculum for guidance.

Supported employment services is a person-centered service model designed to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities secure, obtain and maintain employment in their community. This program emphasizes inclusive workplaces, fair wages, and opportunities for advancement.

- Individualized support
- Integration and inclusivity
- Ongoing supports and assistance
- Collaboration between employers, individuals and the support agency

ACCES-VR (Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation) services provide a wide range of services to assist the individual with work readiness training, job development and placement, college coaching supports, work try-out and on the job training supports.
An individual does not have to have OPWDD eligibility to participate in ACCES-VR services through Kelberman. This is a New York State Education Department Program.
If interested in ACCES-VR services, please apply through ACCES-VR and you may choose Kelberman as your service provider upon completion of your intake for ACCES-VR services.

Enrollment Requirements
To enroll in services (except ACCESS-VR), people must meet the following requirements:
- Be eligible for services through the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
- Have active Medicaid coverage.
- Have Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver approval, if required for the service.
- Receive OPWDD approval for the specific service being requested.
Once eligibility and required approvals have been verified, our team will guide you through the enrollment process and help coordinate a seamless start to services.
