LPN & Teacher Aide
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Teacher Aide provides support in the classroom environment while also delivering essential nursing care to students. This dual role involves assisting teachers with instructional activities and helping manage student health needs, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. This position will also be responsible for providing nursing services to our summer camp.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide basic nursing care to students, including administering medications, performing health assessments, and providing first aid as needed.
- Monitor and manage chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students.
- Coordinate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers regarding student health needs and concerns.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and school policies.
- Respond to medical emergencies promptly and effectively.
- Administer emergency medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Maintain a well-stocked and organized first aid kit and medical supplies.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and healthcare providers.
- Document and report any health issues, incidents, or changes in student health status.
- Assist in preparing reports and maintaining health records for regulatory compliance.
- Stay updated on best practices in both educational support and nursing care.
- Assist the teacher with instructional activities and classroom management.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as needed.
- Help with preparing classroom materials and setting up educational activities.
- Supervise students during classroom, lunch, and activity periods.
- Support students with special needs, including implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities.
- Provide medical care and health support to campers and staff during the summer session of camp.
- Administer prescribed medications and manage medication storage and records.
- Educate students, campers, and staff on health topics and safety practices as needed.
- Provide first aid and emergency care, including CPR and basic life support.
- Provide CPR training to other programs.
- Coordinate with emergency medical services and ensure proper documentation of incidents.
- Adhere to DOH, OCFS, and SED regulations.
- Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision, and values.
- Other duties as assigned.

Kelberman is a leading provider of autism services for children, adults and families in the Mohawk Valley and Central New York.
Requirements
- Current LPN license required, certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in nursing or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working in an educational setting and/or clinical experience as an LPN is preferred.
- Strong understanding of nursing principles and practices.
- Ability to provide effective support and assistance in a classroom environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in using office and medical equipment.
- Ability to perform basic physical tasks related to nursing care.
- Ability to lift and move objects, including students if necessary.
- ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
