Summer Camp LPN

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of campers with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) during the summer camp season. The LPN provides direct medical care, medication administration, and health monitoring in a supportive, inclusive, and fun camp environment. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments to campers according to medical orders.
  • Monitor and assess camper health status daily, responding to illnesses, injuries, and other medical needs.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care as needed and document all incidents appropriately.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records for campers and staff.
  •  Communicate health concerns or emergencies to parents/guardians and leadership promptly. 
  • Ensure proper infection control practices and hygiene standards are followed.
  • Collaborate with counselors and program staff to ensure campers’ medical needs are met during activities, outings, and daily routines.
  • Assist with training camp staff on basic health protocols, emergency response, and medication safety.
  • Participate in pre-camp orientation and ongoing team meetings.
  • Adhere to DOH, OCFS, and SED regulations.
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current LPN license required, certification in CPR and First Aid preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a camp, residential, or school setting is a plus. 
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles and practices.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to inclusion and person-centered care.
